They're using Unity, and according to the latest Q&A they aren't 100% comfortable with it yet, meaning that adding a multiplayer functionality would be a lot harder for them. They knew the engine inside out and how to work with it perfectly. Thing is, Baldur's Gate had its own engine developed by BioWare. No need to change the single player game if the "companions" are just observers. Im sure they when we all play PoE we will see that it could have been exactly the same. Pillars of Eternity started with the kickstarter.īaldurs gate didn't exactly have a complex multiplayer function and it didnt at all interfear with the singleplayer game as it was all one story even if mutiple played. The kickstarter funds were used for extra stuff from what I recall. Originally posted by Starwars:Divinity was already underway in development when they started their kickstarter, I think the game was actually nearly finished after a 2 year development cycle. They're using a live orchestra for about 1 hour of the music in the game. Hand painted 2d backgrounds (some people like the 3d of Divinity more though which is beyond me). The setting appears to have a lot of thought put into it (much moreso than Divinity). There's also a big focus on choice and reactivity, 8 companions with a lot of writing attached to them etc. They've said that there are over 150 areas in the game (this was back in July so not sure if something has changed since then) and that the game is not quite BG2 size but is "up there" so to speak.Īnd regardless of playtime I think one should also consider that there's quite a lot of stuff in the game that Divinity doesn't have, like a *lot* of classes for example.
