You can be deeply, spirtually into Shinto, but typically it is just a part of Japanese identity without making many (or any) demands on your time, or your wallet. Shinto has no strict rules, texts, dogma, or catechism. And, as u/wasabibuttcream says in his/her post, rejecting Shintoism is almost a rejection of Japanese identity. This is why you don't get many Japanese people making a very vocal assertion of their denial of Shintoism. There is nothing personal to actually reject or rebel against. Its difficult because there is no real oppressive dogma in Shinto. If you have a simple question, your first stop should be Google, not here. Repeat/egregious offenders will be banned. Low-effort posts (trolls, treating the sub like Google etc) will be deleted. Reposts & multiple threads on the same topic, especially current events, will be deleted. If you have a question that doesn't go in the basic questions thread, 80% of the time it will get a better response somewhere else. Read all rules and check the list of Japan-related subreddits before submitting.
